LAKEN
A former mattress factory repurposed into a collection of homes. The previous owners, an artist couple, introduced reclaimed boat timber into the concrete structure, giving the loft its distinctive character. Building on this foundation, we created a home for a young couple expecting their first child, balancing the existing character with their needs.
In the bathroom, we opened up two walls to integrate a shower and connect to the master bedroom, allowing natural light to flow through the space. By lowering the ceiling above the bathtub, we transform bathing into an intimate ritual. Glass blocks and steel shelves are stacked in a deliberately raw composition to support the washbasin, creating a functional, sculptural element that contrasts with the warmth of the timber floor.
We design by revealing the potential of what already exists, transforming practical needs into sculptural elements.
